As the publicity lights on the refugee issue has begun to fade away, its management by the European Union continues with the same intensity. The Greek state follows these imperatives by keeping the fence of Evros and the policy of so-called hotspots and pre-occupation centers that lead to the imprisonment of thousands of our fellow human beings in unsustainable conditions.
In the last few days, a chase has started at the city of Kos as well as other areas of the island by a police unit that has come from Athens with over 30 people in cooperation with the local police department, performing police check and verification outside of hospitality structures, in workplaces and immigrant homes. Their goal is to arrest whoever does not papers. Many prosecutions have been made, some of which have been turned into arrests, which means detention in the police station in miserable conditions, then taken to the so called hot spot, name for the modern state-sponsored prison, and final step, is deportation.
There have been arrested immigrants who have been living and working for many years in Kos have and have been accepted as a part of this society, which the state itself maintains them they remained in a non paper, illegal status…
The marginalization of people who have left their country for economic, social or humanitarian reasons is the real “paradise” that awaits them in the Western world. Nonstop blackmail for the legalization papers, which for most people is an unreachable dream, is the key state uses for their human exploitation.
More than ever, we have to declare, that no human being is illegal. All of us, together, living and working here, without discrimination of race or identity, we are all part of this society.
We continue to fight for equality, solidarity and freedom.
